Richard and Mary Thornton

The Thornton family will always be in debt to Mr. Jim Javens for the years he spent as a band director of the Grantsville, Utah, High School band. We had several children develop their skills on the trumpet, trombone, baritone, clarinet and other instruments, and a couple of our children went to State competitions because of his good teaching, times that will live in their memories. As their mother, I can see in my mind Mr. Javens marching along Grantsville's main street alongside the band at every parade. He was quiet, supportive and appreciative of those young people who tried their very best to bring joy to the citizens of their home town.

Thank you, Mr. Javens, for enriching our lives and the lives of countless others through your devotion to teaching the arts. You are greatly appreciated and remembered.
